CUNA Mutual Group, a long-standing provider of products and services for credit unions, faced declining ability for members to attend its annual in-person “Discovery Conference” as travel budgets tightened. Early attempts to replace the event with basic webinars drew interest but suffered from unstable video, limited interactivity and no automated registration.
Partnering with ON24, CUNA built an Online Discovery Conference that replicated the physical experience with an auditorium, expo hall, networking lounge and searchable resource center. The 2011 virtual event drew 1,907 registrants (vs. prior averages of 600–800), delivered a 62% attendance rate (about 1,200 attendees), averaged four hours per attendee, and generated strong engagement across sessions, booths, chats and downloads—reestablishing the conference as a must‑attend industry event.
