Why LSO was Ready for a Video-Based Safety Program

LSO (formerly Lone Star Overnight) is a regional trucking and delivery company serving the Southwest and Mexico. Facing the industry challenge of reducing risky driving behaviors and improving driver coaching, LSO sought a way to strengthen its safety program and pinpoint the key areas for targeted training.

LSO deployed SmartDrive’s video-based safety system, using recorded footage during trainings to correct risky behaviors and recognize good driving. Since implementation LSO’s overall safety score improved 47%; seatbelt compliance rose 100%; mobile phone use and texting fell 90% and 69% respectively; excessive speeding was cut in half; incomplete stops dropped 82%; and unsafe following decreased 77%. The system also helped exonerate drivers and identify nighttime fatigue for further coaching.
