Why ABM (formerly Ampco System Parking) was Ready for a Video-Based Safety Program

ABM (formerly Ampco System Parking) is a national parking and shuttle services provider operating over 3,500 vehicles across more than 29 states, including major airports. Although ABM had used first-generation video-based safety technology since 2001, the company needed a simpler, centrally managed program to reduce risky behaviors (speeding, cell‑phone use, no seatbelt), strengthen policy compliance, and get a complete view of fleet operations without the heavy administrative burden of a self‑managed system.

In 2007 ABM moved to the fully managed SmartDrive Measured Safety Program, which centralized program oversight, cut administrative hours, and integrated with ABM’s driver training and rewards (the “Keeping the Camera Green” program and safety bonuses). The platform enabled rapid incident identification and coaching, driver exoneration in not‑at‑fault crashes (three clear exonerations in one three‑week period), and measurable reductions in speed‑related events and other unsafe behaviors—paying back the program through improved safety and reduced accident costs.
