FreshDirect is a New York–area online grocer that delivers fresh and frozen food to homes and offices, where customers pick their own delivery date and time window. That self-service model creates completely dynamic daily routes—very different from standard route fleets—and outgrew FreshDirect’s labor‑intensive manual scheduling, limiting scalability and efficiency.
In 2009 FreshDirect implemented Omnitracs Roadnet Scheduler, a 100% dynamic routing solution that fills capacity, presents optimal delivery windows to customers (and offers incentives), and lets schedulers make targeted exceptions. The system boosted routing efficiency by about 8% and improved on‑time performance from 95% to 98% (a 3% gain), enabled expansion into less dense suburbs without raising per‑delivery costs, and supports the company’s growing volume (roughly 75,000 orders per week).
