Intertek, a global provider of quality and safety services with more than 130 years’ experience, sought to strengthen workplace safety culture across 1,231 U.S. employees at 50 locations. Leaders needed a way to reward people who speak up, increase reporting of unsafe conditions and near-misses, and connect locations so safety incidents and best practices could be shared and addressed.

Partnering with O.C. Tanner, Intertek launched the SAFE program in October 2013, using customized safety eCards, redeemable award codes, peer-to-peer recognition tools, training roadshows, and branch-level communications and displays. Since launch the program has delivered 6,665 moments of recognition, driven a significant rise in reporting from recordable cases to near-misses, improved management visibility into day-to-day safety issues, and reinforced to clients that safety is a visible, rewarded priority.
