Marks & Spencer’s own-brand wine labels last 30 years with Nucleus

The customer Marks & Spencer sought to exploit the potential of its own-brand packaging. The vendor Nucleus was engaged to design packaging for dozens of product ranges, including wine.

Nucleus designed a range of wine labels that combined heraldic devices with contemporary, asymmetric layouts and distinctive typography. The solution created significant shelf impact and was immediately successful. Remarkably, some of the labels from this 1987 range remain in use over 30 years later, achieving a rare longevity for own-brand packaging and illustrating the power of classic design for the vendor Nucleus.
