Volcom, a modern lifestyle brand for surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding, launched its online store in 2014 but struggled with limited resources to maintain daily manual cross-sell and upsell recommendations. The team needed a fast, easy-to-manage personalization solution that would integrate with Magento, match Volcom’s UX standards and be performance-based.

Volcom implemented Nosto’s personalization across category, product, search, cart and trigger emails—adding best-seller lists, browsing-history recommendations, automated cross-sell/up-sell, out-of-stock/404 suggestions, abandonment pop-ups and personalized Facebook retargeting. Results included a doubled conversion rate for customers who clicked recommendations, a 6% higher average order value, 112% greater customer value, time on site up 43% with 81% more products viewed, a 5% conversion rate from triggered emails and a 22x ROAS on personalized Facebook ads in four weeks.
