A NICE Systems Case Study
York County Communications Center, which handles roughly 250,000 911 calls a year for 65,000 residents and multiple military and visitor populations, needed to replace an outgrown facility and modernize its 911, radio and recording systems amid tight budgets and rising interoperability requirements. To afford the upgrades, York County partnered with neighboring James City County to jointly scope, procure and fund the project.
The counties implemented a Motorola ASTRO trunked radio system together with a fully integrated NICE Recording solution as a turnkey, single‑vendor deployment—saving millions and enabling tight radio/recording integration. The system records 350 talkgroups, captures trunking metadata for accurate playback, supports unit‑ID searches for faster investigations, went live smoothly, and has been expanded to include other regional agencies to improve interoperability and emergency response.
