Voices.com Improves Application Response Time by 50% with Help from New Relic

Voices.com is an online marketplace that connects businesses with 100,000 professional voiceover artists across more than 100 languages. Built on a PHP/CodeIgniter stack and serving about 250,000 users, the 32-person company needed deeper, real-time performance insight—existing tools and Rackspace alerts were too high-level, leaving the team reactive as they scaled globally.

A quick New Relic trial gave Voices.com a single pane of glass (Transaction Traces and Real User Monitoring) to pinpoint issues—most notably detecting the APC opcode-cache deprecation after migrating to PHP 5.5 so they could install Zend OPcache. That visibility led to a 50% improvement in application response time, bug fixes in minutes instead of hours, lower developer costs, and better guidance for where to allocate IT resources during expansion.
