Smartphones hold the keys to your car a better user experience for Toyota’s car sharing service TOYOTA SHARE

Toyota needed a better way to support its TOYOTA SHARE car-sharing service, especially in edge environments where the smartphone app interacts with the smart key box (SKB) and connectivity can be unstable. Toyota wanted to understand app-to-device communication in real time so it could diagnose rare, hard-to-reproduce issues more effectively.

New Relic provided New Relic Mobile for log collection and visualization in the TOYOTA SHARE app, with minor SDK modifications to fit SKB specifications. The solution enabled Toyota to capture and send logs even when internet access was interrupted, then visualize them once connectivity returned. As a result, Toyota reduced dealer response time for SKB inquiries by about 60% per month and cut customer inquiry handling time for the TOYOTA SHARE app by about 25%.
