Planet Sports Takes Action to Optimise Performance

Planet Sports (part of 21sportsgroup) is a long‑standing European action‑sports retailer with 14 stores and multiple e‑commerce sites built on Magento. Rapid growth exposed performance gaps across frontend, backend and CRON processes: seven stores experienced downtime and slow troubleshooting due to a lack of real‑time visibility, causing lost conversions and operational stress.

Planet Sports deployed New Relic APM, Browser and Insights across environments to split and monitor transactions (frontend, API, CRON) and map browser/backend issues. The team quickly identified and fixed a blocking price‑indexing query (one line of code for a 100% performance gain) and a JavaScript error that broke IE9 checkouts, restored conversions, introduced real‑time dashboards for management, reduced incidents and release risk, and realized ongoing savings while planning wider monitoring and new SLAs.
