Ocado realizes six-figure savings as it moves to the cloud

Ocado, the UK’s largest dedicated online grocery retailer, and its engineering arm Ocado Technology faced a major challenge migrating the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP) and 100+ microservices to AWS while maintaining a seamless customer experience. Existing dashboards weren’t compatible with the cloud, and with 1,000 globally distributed developers Ocado needed full-stack visibility to detect and fix performance issues before they impacted customers.

Ocado implemented the New Relic Digital Intelligence Platform (APM, Browser, Synthetics, Insights) to gain real-time, end-to-end visibility and a common collaboration tool. New Relic helped pinpoint root causes (for example, a shared physical database host and a faulty warehouse sensor), sped up issue resolution, increased confidence in cloud migration and development, improved team collaboration, and delivered about £100,000 in annual cost savings.
