Case Study: Next Update achieves improved availability and 30% faster page performance with New Relic

A New Relic Case Study

Preview of the Next Update Case Study

New Relic supports Next Update as it expands its Sifter bug and issue tracking application and improves availability

Next Update, founded in 2008 by Garrett Dimon, builds Sifter, a simple SaaS bug- and issue-tracking app aimed at both technical and non-technical users. The tiny team ran the entire application on a single virtual server, which made even small issues risk outages for a global customer base; their primary goals were to improve availability, eliminate downtime, and free up time to develop the product.

After installing New Relic in 2009, Next Update used its visibility to move from one server to seven on Rackspace and to monitor performance across the stack with Server Monitoring, Slow SQL, Real User Monitoring and the Application Speed Index. Insights led to a memory-configuration fix and targeted optimizations (notably a 30% faster Issues Listing page with twice the information per view), enabling proactive monitoring, fewer outages, and better developer productivity and prioritization.
