CarRentals.com, a technology brand within Expedia Group, runs a high-performance online car rental booking platform with features like 60‑second bookings and dynamic pricing on AWS. As the company modernized—breaking a PHP monolith into microservices and consolidating three acquired brands—it struggled with fragmented monitoring tools, limited full‑stack visibility, and the need to be first to detect incidents and integrate alerts into Expedia’s Event Management Framework.

To solve this, CarRentals.com standardized on New Relic (APM, Infrastructure, Browser, Synthetics, and Insights dashboards) to unify monitoring, define KPIs, and automate alerts into the incident workflow. The change delivered faster detection and remediation (one issue was fixed within 20 minutes), freed an estimated 3–4 FTE from monitoring maintenance, improved trend analysis and NOC dashboards, reduced error rates and customer abandonment, and increased the team’s confidence to deploy and innovate.
