Treating some of the nation’s most underprivileged, Kentucky River Community Care uses Netsmart solutions to improve health

Kentucky River Community Care (KRCC) is a nonprofit serving eight counties in eastern Kentucky, a region with persistent poverty and limited access to behavioral health specialists. Facing infrastructure gaps, staff shortages (especially psychiatrists) and paper-based workflows that left reporting and billing six weeks behind, KRCC needed a way to extend services into remote communities and modernize its health IT. Netsmart has been KRCC’s strategic technology partner for about 20 years.

KRCC implemented Netsmart’s Plexus Cloud Hosting, CareRecord EMR and Topaz eSignature pads to build a wide-area telehealth network connecting 20+ locations and 58 operating sites with 536 providers. Cloud hosting reduced maintenance and added backups/disaster recovery, while real-time EMR access eliminated the six-week data lag and enabled paperless workflows. As a result, participants accessed twice as many services and stayed twice as long in treatment, improving care access and recovery outcomes across the region.
