A Netsmart Case Study
The Association of Community Mental Health Centers of Kansas (ACMHCK) partnered with Netsmart to meet a July 2014 state mandate implementing health homes for Medicaid beneficiaries with serious mental illness. The initiative—driven by ACA goals to improve chronic care, reduce hospitalizations and emergency visits—required a fast, standardized platform so multiple providers could securely share clinical information and coordinate care for patients with high rates of medical comorbidity.
Netsmart deployed its CareManager solution to 23 of the state’s 26 health homes in seven weeks, delivering five trainings in five days and enabling shared records, Health Action Plans, care coordination, and streamlined authorizations. Early results included 8,000 clients registered at go‑live (14,000 after one month), clinician use doubling within a month, reduced duplicate data entry, and statewide information sharing that increased efficiency and positioned Kansas as a potential model for other states.
