Henderson Behavioral Health and Memorial Health System connect to improve care and reduce healthcare costs

Netsmart partnered with Henderson Behavioral Health and Memorial Health System to create the first direct electronic integration of its kind linking behavioral and physical health care. Facing manual, paper-based referrals that could take days to process and regulatory consent challenges with local HIEs (42 CFR), the organizations needed a secure, coordinated way to transfer accurate patient information for emergency department mental-health referrals.

Using a phased implementation with Netsmart (CareConnect/CareRecord) and Epic, the teams built a secure electronic referral workflow that preserves authorized consents and clinical detail. The result: faster, confidential referrals; reduced ED wait times and duplicate data entry; better continuity of care and more accurate records; and early indicators of lower costs and improved patient experience as the partners begin to quantify ROI.
