AltaPointe Behavioral Health System in Alabama faced a mountain of observational paperwork — three thick stacks of 15‑minute behavioral logs on clinicians’ desks — that made it difficult to review medication effectiveness and get timely patient data. CIO Steve Dolan partnered with Netsmart to reduce paperwork and streamline the observation workflow.
They implemented Netsmart’s Observer (part of CarePOV), an iPad app that digitizes observations and syncs them to the Netsmart EHR in real time. In the first six months AltaPointe recorded over 315,000 observations, saved about 300 nursing hours (≈$8,000), eliminated paper forms, and gained immediate physician access, historical analytics, and measurable improvements in patient experience, staff safety, efficiency and satisfaction.
