A NetCracker Case Study
NEC Corporation and Netcracker Technology partnered to provide a virtualized Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) to the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan. ITRI required a flexible, standards-compliant LTE core for a Small Cell LTE Plugfest where ten Taiwanese base-station manufacturers could verify interoperability, validate features, and improve competitiveness.
The NEC/Netcracker vEPC virtualized key network functions (MME, S‑GW/P‑GW) on general-purpose servers to deliver a fully virtual LTE core for the event. The deployment successfully supported the compatibility tests, validated virtualized infrastructure for SDN/NFV use cases, and set the stage for continued R&D and market expansion in Taiwan’s LTE, IoT and virtualized-network services.
