Managing the Malaria Medicine Supply Chain

Roll Back Malaria faced widespread stock-outs of anti-malarial medicines in remote clinics, limiting access to treatment for millions in Tanzania. Netcall provided the SMS for Life service using the MATS platform to monitor inventories and tackle persistent supply-chain gaps.

Netcall implemented weekly SMS prompts with incentives, automated reminders, and a real‑time, GIS-enabled dashboard so district officers could track stocks and reallocate supplies quickly. The pilot saw ACT stock-outs fall from 26% to 0.8%, the program scaled to cover over 40 million people nationwide, enabled predictive resupply to outbreak hotspots, and helped reduce malaria-related deaths.
