How the New York Post tripled campaign conversions for its premium sports membership

The New York Post launched Post Sports+ in September 2021 and needed a better way to target flyout ads for its premium sports membership. With 93.6 million unique monthly users, the team could not rely on manual segmentation or historical models, since those methods would be slow, biased, and limited to known users.

The New York Post partnered with mParticle’s Cortex machine-learning engine and the Cortex Decisioning SDK to use real-time behavioral data, including clicks and pageviews, to predict which users were most likely to subscribe. The ML-powered approach drove a 3x increase in campaign conversions versus the metered approach tested, and real-time data produced a 40% increase in Sports+ campaign conversions over batch data alone.
