Qatar Movies is a full-service movie-booking app created by Carnegie Mellon Qatar student Abubaker Omer to simplify finding showtimes, buying tickets and navigating to cinemas. The challenge was growing and sustaining engagement while surfacing underused features (like after-booking navigation and transport) and validating which product changes actually improved the user experience as the app scaled.

From day one Omer used Mixpanel—especially Live View—to track behavior, iterate quickly, and validate changes. By replacing a hidden “Done” button with visible Uber/Maps/Waze icons and adding car shortcuts, after-booking activity rose about 50% (40% of purchasers clicked through to after-booking screens), and overall engagement surged (including a reported 10x lift in weekly active users).
