West Aurora School District 129, a K–12 district in Aurora, IL serving about 1,800 employees across 20 aging buildings, was burdened by an outdated, on‑premises communications system that required dedicated equipment and IT support in each building. With limited IT staff, tight budgets, and little space for data center equipment, the district needed an eRate‑eligible, off‑site solution that reduced per‑building IT demands and kept features simple to use.

The district moved to Mitel’s MiCloud, an off‑site cloud communications platform that delivered easy features like call forwarding, conferencing and voicemail‑to‑email while eliminating costly phone cabling and PRI leases—new services are activated over Ethernet. The cloud solution freed local IT resources, allowed deployment of modern communications across older facilities, and ensured reliable, mission‑critical and emergency communications even during outages.
