A Mitel Case Study
Tulane Health Science Center’s Telecommunications Department supports the university’s medical, public health and hospital campuses as well as a growing network of neighborhood and remote clinics. They needed a secure, cost‑effective way to extend office communications and PBX functionality to small, distributed sites while centralizing services like voicemail and enabling greater business connectivity.
Tulane added an Aastra Pointspan® SIP Pointspan Node (SPN) to its existing Aastra system and deployed Aastra SIP terminals at remote clinics, allowing phones to run off the central switch. This solution preserved campus phone numbers, enabled least‑cost routing and full PBX features for remote staff, proved economical as new clinics opened (including post‑Katrina services), and centralized services such as voicemail across locations.
