The University of Liverpool - Customer Case Study

The University of Liverpool, a Russell Group institution with over 22,000 students and 5,500 staff, was running an ageing Siemens ISDX phone system that was expensive to maintain, lacked resilience and modern collaboration features, and could not easily scale across its multiple campuses and 4,000+ users. The university needed a phased migration approach with minimal disruption that would deliver greater functionality, scalability and improved collaboration.

Mitel, with partner Alternative Networks, implemented MiVoice Business plus MiCollab, Teleworker and Marwatch, integrating with the existing Siemens system for a phased move and replacing 4,000 handsets with VoIP/softphone-capable devices. The centralized VoIP platform and move to SIP trunks reduced ISDN and support costs, improved call quality and handling (especially during clearing), added conferencing/IM and remote-working capabilities, increased resilience and simplified management, and opened the door to future cloud and mobile deployments.
