Roadworks firm achieves true disaster recovery with Virtualized Mitel Solution

ALM Holding Company is a privately held road construction and resources firm with about 2,000 employees and offices in five states. The company needed to improve the reliability and recoverability of its voice communications and fold telephony into a unified data-center disaster recovery strategy after years of evolving from linked PBXs to IP telephony and teleworker capabilities.

Working with Five Star Telecom, ALM deployed Mitel’s Virtual Communications Director (vMCD) on VMware vSphere 4 using vMotion, extending teleworker and Mitel Applications Suite capabilities. The virtualized solution delivered fast, reliable backups and failover, cut servers from over 70 to five, reduced data-center space and power use, lowered CapEx/OpEx, improved IT productivity and morale, and has been rolled out to 300 users with plans to extend vMCD to all offices.
