A Mitel Case Study
Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD), which serves about 12,000 students across 19 sites in Silicon Valley, faced an inefficient, landline-based communications infrastructure with more than 350 analog lines, disparate standalone PBXs, and costly external contractors handling moves/adds/changes. The district needed a centralized, scalable and cost-effective phone system that would simplify administration, reduce telecom spend, and improve collaboration among staff, teachers and parents.
PAUSD deployed a Mitel Unified Communications solution—Mitel Conference Bridge, IP phones, Mitel Voice Switches, SIP trunking, virtualized servers, an Ingate SIParator session border controller and Cisco gateways for legacy lines—supported by a Mitel partner for implementation and training. The result is a centralized IP system with 1,150 IP phones across the district, increased productivity and easier internal MACs, canceled unused analog lines, greater call capacity, and an anticipated $100,000 in savings over five years with lower total cost of ownership.
