Maywood Public Schools - Customer Case Study

Maywood Public Schools, a two-school district in Bergen County, New Jersey serving about 1,000 students (pre-K–8) and 70 teachers, faced outdated, unevenly distributed communications that left classrooms without phones, created PA dead zones, and relied on manual processes that prevented timely lockdowns and police notification during emergencies. The district needed a cost-effective way to improve everyday staff-to-staff and parent communication while delivering reliable, automated emergency response.

Mitel and partner Eastern DataComm implemented MiVoice Connect with E911, a paging head-end upgrade, additional speakers and the LENS Lockdown Emergency Notification System, integrated with the district’s mobile app. Teachers now have in-room phones and one-touch lockdown capability that simultaneously alerts 911, local police and everyone on campus via PA, strobes, calls, texts and screen pops; the upgrade also improved daily collaboration, demonstrated its reliability in a real false alarm, and is scalable for future expansion.
