A Mitel Case Study
Georgia Military College, a highly ranked community college, was an early adopter of a 100% VoIP environment—deploying Microsoft Office Communications Server for about 450 employees and eliminating PSTN lines. However, limited and costly UC-capable endpoints meant only a few executives benefited from unified communications; the college needed an affordable desk phone with an embedded client to extend Lync capabilities to the broader staff.
After upgrading to Microsoft Lync Server 2010, GMC deployed Aastra 6721ip and 6725ip phones as standalone IP endpoints. The phones delivered PoE, dual Gigabit Ethernet, HD audio and presence; the 6725ip’s USB “Better Together” mode added click-to-call and desktop call control using Exchange data. The rollout enabled 100% of the college to use UC features, boosting collaboration and employee productivity, with plans to expand deployment.
