Design Within Reach, a rapidly expanding modern-furniture retailer, was weighed down by costly, disparate Nortel phone and voicemail systems across 35 stores and growing by roughly 20 sites a year. The company needed a centrally managed, easy-to-deploy, and lower-cost communications platform built on modern technology.

Design Within Reach chose Mitel VoIP (ShoreGear switches, Personal Call Manager and softphones), deploying the first site in under a day and rolling the system out to 24 additional locations. The move cut hardware costs by more than half, simplified installation and administration (eliminating outside consultants), reduced support calls, and added features like centralized voicemail, four-digit dialing and mobile/softphone capability that improved communications and user satisfaction.
