A Mitel Case Study
The City of Atlantic Beach, a small Florida island municipality, repeatedly faced communications outages during hurricanes and severe storms that left staff unable to take urgent calls from residents. With city hall only blocks from the ocean and 125 employees across departments, the city needed a resilient, 24/7 phone system that would let staff make and receive calls from any location during evacuations.
Atlantic Beach deployed Mitel MiVoice Connect hosted in a co-location data center 15 miles inland and the MiVoice mobile app, allowing calls to be forwarded to employees’ mobile or home phones and enabling remote call handling. The system provided uninterrupted communications during Hurricanes Irma and Matthew, added features like automated attendant and conferencing, improved staff flexibility, and delivered roughly 20% savings on phone costs.
