Cattaraugus‑Allegany BOCES (CA BOCES), which supports 22 mostly rural school districts, was paying for overprovisioned, high‑density phone switches that didn’t match its small‑site needs and also lacked a unified emergency notification system for school safety. The IT team needed a right‑sized communications platform and an integrated mass‑notification solution to simplify operations and improve lockdown and emergency response.

CA BOCES deployed Mitel’s MiVoice Business VoIP platform, 6900 Series IP phones and the Revolution Mass Notification System, integrated with Valcom blue‑light towers, strobes, horns and paging; this right‑sized VoIP design cut communications costs and, deployed across three centers, created a one‑button lockdown and multi‑channel alert capability (paging, exterior towers, strobes and mobile/text alerts). The open integration reduced system complexity, enabled third‑party security add‑ons and delivered a modern, budget‑friendly model other districts can replicate.
