Amstelland Hospital improves accessibility with Mitel IP telephony

Amstelland Hospital in Amstelveen (255 beds, ~800 staff) needed to replace an ageing switchboard to ensure rapid, reliable contact with doctors, nurses and emergency teams across the site. Key requirements were seamless integration of fixed and wireless telephony, full hospital-wide Wi‑Fi and localisation for staff and patients so alerts and calls wouldn’t be delayed by locating fixed extensions.

The hospital deployed a best‑of‑breed solution—Mitel IP telephony with MiVoice servers and phones, Ascom Wi‑handsets, and a Trapeze WLAN—designed with voice/data separation and 100% redundancy. The result was immediate staff availability, near‑continuous uptime, wireless internet on wards, wandering patient detection and a future‑proof platform for EPD access and further localisation and mobile integration.
