House of Fraser enriches in store and online customer experience using Azure cloud

House of Fraser, a 169-year‑old UK department store group, faced changing customer behaviour and the need to modernize into a data-driven, multi-channel retailer across multiple brands and markets. The challenge was to build a scalable, multi-lingual, multi-currency e‑commerce and in‑store platform for a £1 billion operation without losing control of a bespoke solution or creating operational complexity.

The company built a single, Azure‑based platform—integrating SAP Hybris, MuleSoft and its POS and warehouse systems—to deliver consistent, extensible digital and in‑store experiences. The result was faster page loads, proven scalability (1.7 million visitors and 10 million page views on Black Friday 2017) and a resilient environment that handled peak demand seamlessly, with ongoing work on mobile, in‑store tech and loyalty in partnership with Microsoft.
