DFS Increasing Safety and Reducing Fuel Costs

DFS is a UK sofa retailer and manufacturer operating 51 centres and a fleet of around 250 7.5‑ton and 45 articulated vehicles to deliver about 12,000 orders weekly. Their main challenge was controlling driver behaviour and giving installers—who spend much of the day delivering and installing furniture—the feedback needed to maintain safe, cost‑effective, high‑quality customer service. DFS engaged Microlise and deployed Microlise’s Fleet Performance product (including the safety module) alongside the Microlise ClearVision camera system.

Microlise’s telematics and camera integration records harsh acceleration, braking and cornering, captures contextual data and footage, and lets DFS drill down into events to coach drivers. As a result, DFS reports a safer operating environment and fuel savings of more than 6% in the first year of operation; the retailer is now trialling Microlise in‑cab navigation and exploring system interfaces to provide real‑time delivery status.
