University of Kansas Health System upgrades intranet for 12,000 employees with Merkle

The University of Kansas Health System, a world-class academic medical center, faced the challenge of upgrading its outdated employee intranet, named 24/7, to improve the user interface and search experience for its 12,000+ employees. This need was magnified by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which increased reliance on digital communication. The health system engaged vendor Merkle to lead this redesign, leveraging their expertise with the Sitecore digital experience platform.

Merkle implemented a comprehensive solution that included upgrading Sitecore, integrating the Coveo enterprise search tool for personalized results, and building a custom Message Center application to consolidate key communications. The agency also overhauled the information architecture and navigation with a new mega-menu. The result was a clean, modern intranet launched in 2020 that allowed the health system's busy employees to quickly find critical information during a highly stressful period, directly addressing the challenges posed by the pandemic.
