A Mercer Mettl Case Study

Preview of the India Global Chemical Company Case Study

Revamping existing employee evaluation framework for all organizational promotions and succession planning processes

India Global Chemical Company, one of India’s largest chemical firms headquartered in Mumbai, faced a challenge in succession planning: their promotion and talent-evaluation processes relied heavily on manager feedback and lacked an objective, scientific method. To address this, Mercer Mettl was engaged to revamp the evaluation framework using a Development Center approach and a Custom Assessment Battery (including Personality Inventory, SJT, Caselets, Cognitive Ability Test, and Domain Ability tests).

Mercer Mettl administered assessments to 61 candidates across two levels (TSI II and TSI III) and four zones, analyzed group performance, and identified strengths and development areas. The exercise found TSI II outperforming TSI III on most competencies, pinpointed high-level training needs (3 competencies for TSI II and 2 for TSI III), and objectively shortlisted candidates fit for ASM succession—reducing manager bias and enabling data-driven promotion decisions.
