A Mercer Mettl Case Study
The All India Management Association (AIMA), organiser of the national Management Aptitude Test (MAT), faced a sudden challenge when COVID-19 lockdowns threatened to delay its high‑stakes, nationwide exam. AIMA needed a technology partner to quickly digitize MAT while preserving credibility, preventing cheating and impersonation, ensuring accessibility for candidates across tier‑3 and tier‑4 locations, and scaling to thousands of simultaneous test‑takers. AIMA partnered with Mercer Mettl and its remote proctoring suite (AI + human proctoring and the Mettl Secure Browser) to meet these needs.
Mercer Mettl implemented a double‑layer proctoring solution (AI monitoring plus human invigilation), browser lockdown, a scalable cloud platform with low‑bandwidth support, and dedicated operational support and customization. The result: Mercer Mettl enabled 35,000+ candidates to take MAT online without major glitches, delivered a reported 98% cheating‑detection rate, and helped increase participation from a 37% offline rate to 45% in the remote format — with the May exam held on schedule and greater uptake from tier‑3 and tier‑4 cities.
