A Mercer Mettl Case Study
The Center for Educational Measurement, Inc faced the urgent task of moving its high‑stakes National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) online during COVID‑19 while preserving test validity, security and nationwide accessibility across 7,641 islands. CEM chose Mercer Mettl and its Examine online examination and proctoring suite to meet strict requirements for scalability, airtight proctoring (AI + human), low‑bandwidth operation and the ability to control and upload exam content.
Mercer Mettl deployed Examine with the Mettl Secure Browser and a combined AI‑assisted/live proctoring model, enabling CEM to scale from 2,000 to 20,000 assessments, deliver exams across all 7,641 islands with as little as 512 kbps bandwidth, and maintain integrity (AI trained on 2.8M proctored assessments with ~95% accuracy). The result: over 20,000 seamless NMAT administrations with no reported integrity breaches, no students excluded for technical reasons, and CEM planning to continue using Mercer Mettl for future remote exams.
