Hiring the right candidate from various campuses

German Automotive Company engaged Mercer Mettl to improve campus and lateral hiring for a mapping and location-data business that screens roughly 15,000 candidates a year. The client’s key challenge was identifying candidates with high attention to detail and the right psychometric profile (to reduce early attrition), so Mercer Mettl recommended using the Mettl Personality Inventory alongside a Cognitive Tool focused on Attention to Detail and a curated aptitude test to fit the job demands.

Mercer Mettl implemented a two-stage assessment—psychometric screening (behavioral competencies and Stability Index) followed by cognitive testing—piloted on 655 candidates, and analyzed response styles (Genuine, Socially Desirable, Acquiescence). Results showed 60% of candidates scored above benchmarks and were shortlisted, with an additional 11% provisionally recommended after monitoring; assessment outcomes were also validated during interviews, enabling the company to shortlist sharper, better-matched hires.
