Global BPO Company, a global IT services and BPO provider, needed to overhaul its campus hiring to ensure new hires combined domain expertise with strong English communication—both spoken and written—to reduce the need for extensive L&D. To meet this challenge it partnered with Mercer Mettl, adopting Mercer Mettl’s AI-powered communication assessment tools, notably SpeechX and the Writing/Essay Simulator, to screen candidates on fluency, pronunciation, comprehension, grammar and business writing.

Mercer Mettl customized and deployed SpeechX and the Writing Simulator (with features like remote proctoring, CEFR validation and a human-voiced listening module) as the first-stage filter in the hiring workflow. The solution enabled over 22,000 communication assessments to date, and in a recent campus drive assessed 636 candidates across 28 campuses in 20 states (162 scored above 6.5), with 457 evaluated on key learning dimensions; detailed reports identified trainable vs non-trainable errors, streamlined shortlisting of technically strong, communication-ready hires, and reduced the L&D burden.
