A Mercer Mettl Case Study
Ashoka University, a pioneering liberal arts institution in India, needed to shift its traditional pen-and-paper entrance exams online to reach a more diverse, national and international applicant pool while preserving exam integrity. The admissions team was concerned about varied question formats, low-bandwidth connectivity, secure data handling, candidate authentication for international test‑takers, and logistical flexibility. To address these challenges, Ashoka University partnered with Mercer Mettl and adopted Mercer Mettl’s Examine Online Examination Software System.
Mercer Mettl implemented a customized, low‑bandwidth online exam platform (supporting 26 question formats) with auto‑grading, AWS-backed encryption, multi‑factor access controls, a 3‑point authentication process and AI+human proctoring plus a proprietary Credibility Index. The solution accommodated 500 postgraduate and 400 undergraduate test‑takers simultaneously, enabled a flexible 9 am–5 pm testing window, reduced travel and grading effort, expanded global reach, and ensured continuity during COVID‑19 — delivering measurable time, logistical and integrity benefits for Ashoka University.
