Why referrals are in the bag for this stylish accessories brand

Radley London, a creative British handbag and accessories brand, identified referral marketing in 2015 as a way to turn its loyal customers into new-customer acquisition. Their brief was a fully branded, flexible referral experience they could optimize over time while ensuring referred customers reliably received the incentives promised.

In 2016 Radley launched Mention Me’s platform, using Name Sharing to drive word-of-mouth and cohort-based testing to run 16 experiments. The program produced strong results: Name Sharing accounted for 45% of referral-acquired customers, referred customers had a 19% higher AOV than other new customers, “£15 off £100” doubled redemptions versus “15% off,” and the initiative delivered about a 7.5x ROI, making referral marketing a core, high-performing channel.
