Zipcar, the market leader in city car-sharing, faced the challenge of turning enthusiastic members into a reliable source of new customers without encouraging more car ownership and congestion. With a large base of loyal ambassadors, Zipcar wanted to capture and reward advocacy more effectively and launched a referral programme to scale word-of-mouth growth.

Zipcar partnered with Mention Me in 2016, using its name-share technology, AB testing and customer segmentation to make referrals easy, testable and multilingual. The programme delivered strong results: referrals rose 170% in the most recent six months versus the prior period, peak-month conversion of UK referred friends is 29% (over 40% in Belgium), name sharing drives over 30% of referral orders and WhatsApp contributes about 15%.
