A Melissa Case Study
Parkinson's Institute and Clinical Center (PICC) is a nonprofit with over 30 years of Parkinson’s disease clinical data that was fragmented across many unlinked studies and EMR systems. In 2015 PICC engaged Melissa (Melissa Informatics) to create a unified “Parkinson’s Insight” resource and overcome data-quality, searchability and monetization barriers using Melissa’s Sentient software and informatics services.
Melissa integrated study and EMR content—harmonizing 70+ study sources (including ~3,400 biological samples, ~11,000 assessments from ~3,500 individuals) and later normalizing 70,000+ clinical notes from 5,000+ patients—producing de-identified, research-ready datasets. The Sentient-powered solution enabled a Nature Genetics publication, supported pharma “virtual clinical trial” cohorts, cut electronic data capture costs by roughly $500+ per patient visit, and generated recurring, monetizable partnerships and undisclosed revenue for PICC.
