Healthcare Organization Scrubs Data Using SQL Server Tools

CalOptima, a county-organized health system serving 422,000 members in Orange County, CA, needed to consolidate multi-sourced membership data into a single data warehouse but faced poor data quality — especially inaccurate mailing and home addresses that drove returned mail and missed communications. To address this, CalOptima selected Melissa’s Data Quality Components for SQL Server to clean and standardize member records during ETL migration.

Melissa’s solution integrated as SSIS components, providing an easy drag-and-drop implementation that standardized addresses, enriched records with geospatial attributes, and enabled distance calculations between members and primary care providers. The result was improved member location accuracy, better BI-driven maps and communications, and a measurable reduction in undeliverable-as-addressed mail and associated returned-mail costs.
