Data Processing Service Discovers ‘Match’ to Help Clients

Cass, Inc., a data processing services firm in Acton, MA, faced the challenge of identifying and removing duplicate records and customizing merge/purge rules across many disparate direct-mail and CRM lists. To address this, in December 1991 Cass, Inc. implemented Melissa’s MatchUp (formerly DoubleTake) to integrate high-speed duplicate elimination and flexible data merging into their client workflows.

Melissa’s MatchUp was used to import and merge 30–50 large input lists, combine/split name and address fields, apply fully customizable merge/purge criteria, and suppress current customer files—handling projects with final mail files up to five million names. The solution reduced printing and postage costs, increased response rates, produced overlap reports for smarter list purchasing, and sped up merge/purge operations, delivering measurable cost savings and improved campaign performance.
