SplitSpot Grows the Market for Room Rentals with Matterport

SplitSpot, a room-rental platform for roommates and landlords, struggled to scale beyond Boston because in-person showings were hard to coordinate across multiple tenants and constrained by travel, no-shows, and short viewing windows. The challenge grew during COVID-19, when live online tours still limited capacity and didn’t deliver the best experience. SplitSpot turned to Matterport and Matterport digital twin virtual tours, using a Ricoh Theta SC2 360 camera to create immersive apartment walkthroughs.

Matterport helped SplitSpot standardize digital twins for nearly all of its listings and later use Matterport Capture Services On-Demand for faster, higher-quality captures in new markets. The results were significant: rental applicant conversion improved by 20%, digital twin capture became 50% faster, in-person showings dropped by more than 95%, agents could show up to 4x more properties, and the company said these efficiencies contributed to 2x business growth.
