Northumbrian Water Improves Future Facilities Management by Using Matterport to Capture Assets In 3D

Northumbrian Water, a UK water utility managing a large portfolio of clean and wastewater assets, needed a better way to bring legacy facilities into its IBM Maximo asset management environment. Traditional 3D modeling and photogrammetry were too costly, time-consuming, or low-resolution, so the company turned to Matterport and its Pro2 cameras to capture assets in high-resolution 3D.

Matterport, working with Sitedesk, integrated the 3D scans into Northumbrian Water’s 2D legacy platform using the Matterport 3D Showcase SDK. The result was faster project startup, easier legacy asset management, fewer site visits, and the ability to view assets in 3D while accessing key information like model numbers, dates, costs, and maintenance schedules.
