Northfield Public Schools Monitors Construction and Showcases New Buildings Safely and Remotely with Matterport

Northfield Public Schools, one of Minnesota’s top districts, needed a safe way to monitor the construction of a new elementary school and consolidated early childhood facility during COVID-19, when site visits were restricted. The district also wanted a better way to share the project with stakeholders and later showcase the new buildings to the community. Matterport Pro2 was used to create accurate 3D scans of the project throughout construction.

With Matterport, Northfield Public Schools and Knutson Construction were able to remotely track progress on the 90,000-square-foot facility, share updates with board members and leadership, and plan a virtual open house for the community. The scans also support maintenance by revealing what is inside walls and helping staff locate pipes, wiring, and other systems, improving future repairs and preventing damage. Matterport’s solution also gives the district a reusable virtual tour tool for recruitment, emergency planning, and ongoing community engagement.
